By: Sydney D If you listen very carefully you can hear the tears of emo middle school me as I give you the dreaded news that Warped Tour will no longer be partaking in cross-country tours post the summer of 2018. Dun DUn DUNNNN!! Okay so it’s not that horrible, or even dramatic news, but it is a turning point in the music community- more specifically the alternative scene. Since the 90’s Warped Tour has acted as a platform for small bands to gain exposure and bigger bands to “go back to their roots”. Even more so for the people who like myself, have little funds to *waste* on expensive concert tickets, warped tour acts as an affordable option. (Only costed me $55 dollars to get into the Dallas show in 2015. And if I bought online before the day it would have been less.)
However, Warped Tour in recent years has had to deal with controversy involving some bands and YouTubers. Which some could consider the beginning of the end, and if we are all honest with one another- probably was. And while we all understand the reasonings behind Kevin Lyman’s reasoning behind ceasing to continue Warped Tour as a touring festival, it still brings a melancholy to all of us. Nevertheless, Warped Tour is doing one final tour this upcoming summer, which probably makes the perfect moment to dust off the eyeliner and studded belts and join the mosh pit on last time. Unless like me you still have one- or two- foot still in the scene.
