By: Sydney D The New Year usually signifies a time of change -- New Year’s Resolutions! Whether this is on an inward or an outward scale, as anyone can testify, most changes tend to only last for about a week into the new year before we all return those gym memberships while realizing that we really can’t function with or without at least two cups of coffee. But this year (Okay- I know- we’ve all heard this line), “I think it might be different.” Well, not for me; I still won’t be wasting my ten dollars on a Planet Fitness membership. My loss, I know. People as a whole really do want change around the world and in society. If I can name just one good thing about 2017 (Besides my discovery of a place that sells chocolate covered cheesecake!), it would be how people are starting to speak out about the change they want in the world. And, just not being pacified by simple band-aided solutions. Movements like the Women's March on Washington, Black Lives Matter, and talks of global warming brought attention to issues that have not before really been discussed all that much in depth.
So for this year, when I hear or read the infamous phrase “This year will be different”, I actually believe it this time. So let’s welcome this year with a mind of significant change: to bettering ourselves and others. And hey, maybe just maybe somewhere in all this change, I will at least glance at a gym.
