By: Sydney D So as you probably know as of December 17th, the tumblr purge is in full effect, and everyone has either jumped ship or been pushed off the ship (for the most part). Personally I walked off the ship when they were asking “is this anyone's stop?” back in November, and I got on a new bandwagon called Dreamwidth! (With that I’m done with the ship metaphor, promise) Well it's not really a bandwagon, because apparently it’s a site that has been around since April 2009, just a few months shy of ten years! Which is great because I means that its stood the test of time (ten years it a lot of time when it comes to the ‘net) and it’s reliable. However you can also tell that it has been around for ten years. It will very much give you flashbacks to late 90’s early 2000’s internet. If you’re old enough to remember Livejournal (Fun Fact: I’m not) then this will bring back all those good ‘ol day memories. Gone are the “reblogs” and “likes”! Having to actually talk to people when you like their content is very much still a thing on Dreamwidth(DW). And I’d like to take a moment to recognize that I very much sounded like my Mother when I said “Actually have to talk to people” and I’m sorry. Won’t happen again….maybe. Anyways moving on, DW is more text based and community is what I’m trying to allude to. Think back to myspace (another thing I’m not old enough to remember), were you had “top friends”. On DW you can add people to your “circle” and give maybe closer friends access to your 25k post about you love for boy bands, while you newer friends get the less embarrassing (but 100% valid) post about your love for Backstreet Boys new album. As someone who likes to write, enjoys fandom, but also likes having a level of privacy Dreamwidth is actually pretty nice. I guess my only complaint is that it’s a little harder to find people with not only shared interest but are active. But I am chalking that up to the fact that as time went on, people moved to Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram. And hopefully with the recent Tumblr apocalypse, Dreamwidth will gain back some of that activity it lost. Here are some pics of what Dreamwidth looks like if you were wanting to know! Sidenote however, the color theme is what I decided its originally red and white, and sorry for my bad editing out of usernames! I haven't used Photoshop in like three years. Honorable mentions:
