By: Sydney D Originally I was going to do a “2017 in Review”, but if I’m honest I don’t really feel like looking backwards and would rather look forwards. And since I feel like it’s not too soon to make a resolutions list, that’s just what I am going to do!!
Hey! I see you in the back rolling your eyes and muttering “Here we go again”, but this time I am actually going to make a list I’ll stick to and be able to remember by this time next year. What? Of course I know what my 2017 resolutions were! Ha...ummm… This is because instead of making goals that about things that I know are kind of lofty like “Wake up early everyday!!”, because sorry I sleep in on the weekends, I’ll make goals like “Start running errands before 3 in the afternoon”. So let’s get to that list*!!

By: Sydney D UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS!!!!
Everybody loves to hate them, or hates that they love them. Not going to lie, I love ugly Christmas sweaters, it might be because during the Christmas season there may be no such thing as too tacky. The brighter, cheesier, and holiday themed, the better! Am I right? So in true fashion I have scavenged the net in a thrilling search for the top six sweaters that look as if someone dumped Christmas on them!! By: Sydney D I know with the holidays comes to desire to cook fun, festive, fantastic meals! Which is why I found four recipes that might be fun to try this holiday season.
(Disclaimer: All photos and recipes were found on the linked sites and Pintrest) By: Sydney D With the holidays comes festive feelings and festive music! So I decided to pull together my favorite music tunes and make it all into a list for ya'll! Yes, I know, here come the bullet points again.
By: Sydney D Hey everyone! I know this isn’t a Christmas themed post (that will come later tonight), but I did want to talk about something that affects everyone. Especially people who, like I, run a blog or an online store- which I know many of you do. I want to talk about Net Neutrality, and the ways you can help prevent the removal of the policy. First things first, what is Net Neutrality? Net Neutrality helps smooth online traffic flow and prevents internet providers from monopolizing their service. Which can mean having you pay for the use of social media and policing what you can and can't see. (Exact definition here) Today congress will vote on whether or not they will repeal this policy. And although companies are “promising” they will still abide by the Net Neutrality rules as if it’s still in place, if by chance it is repealed, we can’t count on that. So below is a list of links and ways you can help keep Net Neutrality:
Remember, this isn’t just about having to pay for twitter and Netflix on top of the actual internet. This is also about preventing a company's ability to legally be allowed to partake in censorship. Update 12/14/14: Net Neutrality was voted to be repealed. But there is still a chance to have congress reverse the repeal! So continue contacting your representatives if you would like Net Neutrality to stay! As always, thank you for reading! And please leave a comment below if you have anymore links or ways to contact congress and stop the repeal of Net Neutrality!!
By: Sydney D Hey ya’ll! Since there are twelve days until Christmas, I decided to post everyday until Christmas- think of it as a 12 days of Christmas. For my first day I decided to share some of the decorations that are in my house this year. It’s nothing as grand as previous years, but it was something quick but still fun to do!
So whether you use this as an inspiration on how to deck-out your dorm or apartment, or as a way to come up with ideas for last minute decor, I hope you like it!! By: Sydney D Disclaimer: I am in no way supporting the use of racial slurs, racism or hate speech. I completely get behind people having to face consequences as a result of such actions. This is just my personal opinion on the matter.
I would like to talk about Keaton Jones, not really the video or his family's beliefs, but peoples reaction. A few days ago, a video surfaced on Twitter of him crying about his recent experience of being a victim of bullying. The video ended with him asking why people bully, and as expected thousands of people felt their heartstrings pulled (Although I personally found the video distasteful on the Mother’s part). Great news! I finally have a way to update my blog more frequently!!! which means I will probably start making post more so on Fridays, Sundays, and Tuesdays. (No idea why I didn't list in chronological order. ) Instead of updating randomly thought out the week or month(s).
So see ya'll Tuesday!!! - Sydney D By: Sydney D Okay, it's not snowing like the picture above, that is from the Galveston snow of 2004. But there are SNOWFLAKES!!
Remember that post I made a few weeks ago? About the lack of a cold winter in Galveston. Well, I guess I stand corrected (partly). There were snowflakes really early this morning around 3AM, and then again around 6AM!! And although didn't stick, and I believe the weather will be going back to sunny days by next week, its still a change of season. By: Sydney D From a very young age we are told to ask questions, if anyone remembers Ms.Frizzle, from Magic School Bus, we were also told to “make mistakes”. But I want to ask the important question of why do we make the mistake of not asking why?
If I’m honest I never really thought to ask this question until recently. In my English class a teacher told a student to put away a Fidget Spinner and the student asked them why. Unlike my old school where the teacher would throw out an “it’s distracting” or “against school rules”, this one simply said “don’t ask why”. A response that was just taken at face value, and even though another teacher piped in with the expected “against school rules”, the moment had already passed and the spinner put away. Now, obviously this is a very small situation that doesn’t spell out disaster in any way. But it does beg the question of how people interact with each other and society as a whole. Have we become more passive? Or just satisfied with the way things are? Or like that student, silenced by an authority so many times with a “because I say so”, that we no longer see the importance of asking questions? Why is that? What happened between the “ask questions and discover” part of our lives? Now we seem to accept things at word or face value. Furthermore, how has this discussion to not ask questions effected not only our individual lives, but other lives around the world? Because, we are all connected. So, why don’t we ask why? Thanks for reading, and please leave your thoughts on whether or not we- as a people- ask “Why?” enough. |
